Contribution is one of fund’s largest to date
COLUMBUS, OH (March 23, 2020) — Dee and Jimmy Haslam, investor/operators of the Columbus Crew SC today informed The Columbus Foundation of their support for its Emergency Response Fund, which assists nonprofits affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are humbled by the tremendous work of people around the world in their efforts to help those impacted by COVID-19 and we wanted to try to positively impact those affected in our own communities of Cleveland and Columbus,” Dee and Jimmy Haslam said. “We are grateful for the individuals who are putting others before themselves and for the sacrifices they are making,” said Dee Haslam.
The gift to the Emergency Response Fund is one of the largest received to date. Since its inception on March 10, the fund has received more than $3 million in gifts and has made more than a dozen grants ranging from $9,000 - $50,000.
Franklin County-serving nonprofits experiencing hardship due to a loss of revenue or increase in operating expenses related to the COVID-19 pandemic are eligible to apply for funds.
“This is a truly remarkable gift from a truly remarkable family and community enterprise. Sports unite us in spirit and in place. The care for others being shown by this extraordinary gift from the Haslams, even while the Crew season is shut down until further notice, is exemplary.”
DOUGLAS F. KRIDLER, PRESIDENT AND CEO OF THE COLUMBUS FOUNDATION
