Columbus, OH (November 2, 2016)—The Columbus Foundation is searching for college and graduate students with interest in the nonprofit sector, offering a 10-week, paid fellowship to build work experience and develop skills for a future nonprofit career through its Summer Fellowship Program. The program, now in its eighth year, has expanded to include 17 organizations—nearly doubling its capacity to match eligible students with Franklin County nonprofits. “The Summer Fellowship program simultaneously invests in the development of young nonprofit leaders, while supporting current nonprofits’ needs,” said Dan Sharpe, Director of Community Leadership and Nonprofit Effectiveness at The Columbus Foundation, and leader of the Foundation’s Fellowship Programs. “Bolstering the nonprofit talent pipeline is key to the sustainability of effective nonprofits in our community.”
The deadline to submit a student application online is Monday, December 12, 2016. To qualify for a Fellowship, applicants must be a college junior, senior, May/June 2017 graduate or graduate student in the fall of 2017, and
(1) a Franklin County high school graduate, or
(2) pursuing a degree at a Franklin County college or university.
Selected students will be placed with a nonprofit for the length of the Fellowship Program, from June 5-August 11, 2017. Highly desired qualifications for Fellows include a strong academic record (preferably a 3.0+ GPA) and strong English verbal and written communications skills.

The following nonprofits were chosen through a competitive application process. Each nonprofit will receive a grant from The Columbus Foundation to cover the Fellow’s $6,000 stipend.
Besa Community Inc.
To support the elevation of Besa’s community impact, largely through the improvement and expansion of the online user experience through IT-focused use of Ruby/Rails and Javascript.
Central Community House of Columbus Inc.
To support fundraising and development strategies culminating in a signature event, as well as developing a sales and marketing plan to assist with earned revenue related to venue rental, and other social enterprise opportunities.
Columbus Children’s Choir
To develop and implement an alumni reengagement strategy to benefit the organization for networking and fundraising purposes.
Homeport
To assist Homeport in an analysis of current eviction prevention strategies, the research of home stabilization best practices, as well as an evaluation of the Gifts of Kindness partnership.
Columbus Museum of Art
To coordinate and implement the Summer Art Workshop by managing a team of interns and delivering arts education opportunities.
Community Refugee and Immigration Services, Inc.
To create a resource library, representative of the cultures being served, to assist in the broader community’s education around immigrant and refugee resettlement issues.
Deaf Services Center, Inc.
To develop an advanced email marketing system and other online-based technological communication tools to maintain connection with organization constituencies.
Grange Insurance Audubon Center
To support short- and long-term projects focusing on social media, community engagement, user/visitor experiences, and marketing.
Green Columbus
To facilitate the implementation of a summer youth employment program focused on the planting and maintaining of trees, pocket parks, and other urban “greening” initiatives.
Healthy Worthington Resource Center & Food Pantry Inc.
To assist with marketing, as well as fundraising and development activities culminating in an annual fundraising and awareness event.
Hope Hollow
To design and implement a robust volunteer recruitment and management program, as well as create an Adopt-a-Family platform.
LeaderSpark Inc
To capture and create video content to be used as storytelling, marketing, and fundraising materials supporting the mission of workforce development and training for opportunity youth.
Neighborhood Services, Inc.
To design and implement a research mechanism to best capture client’s needs, pantry purchasing, and operation practices.
Ohio Wildlife Center
To assist in the creation of recorded client testimonials, documenting the successful rehabilitation of animals, and subsequent stories to be used in marketing and fundraising efforts.
Ronald McDonald House
To support and facilitate the local vehicle donation program through outreach and broadened awareness, to result in increased donations to the organization.
YMCA of Central Ohio
To support the Hoover YMCA Park’s Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program through increased marketing, distribution, and improved volunteer coordination in the production garden.
Westerville Symphony
To support the planning, marketing, and delivery of the Summer Community Concert Series, and fundraising events, such as the Beethoven 5k.
